We have completed our 650 mile off-road traverse of the Pyrenees mountains and raised over £3,500 for The Bedford Hospitals Charity and Cancer Research UK.
We have just finished the route but you can still read about our travels and sponsor us…
We would be very grateful if you can support us by donating online using one of these links:
Who are we?
Kate and Gez (or Geraint), known to some as the MonoMonsters.
We live on a boat between Bath and Bristol. We both like mountains and bikes. Occassionally we have ridiculous ideas, like this one.
Why are we doing this?
Kate’s Mum lost her fight with cancer on the 4th of August 2015. She was cared for at the Primrose Unit at Bedford Hospital.
The Bedford Hospitals Charity is raising funds to update and extend the Primrose unit, so we’d like to raise some money for both the Bedford Hospital Charity and for Cancer Research UK.
Where are we going? What are we doing?
We will be cycling the length of the Pyrenees Mountains, from East to West.
The route starts near Perpignan on the Mediterranean coast, traverses the full range of the Pyrenees on the Spanish side and ends 650 miles to the West at Amuaitz, on the Atlantic coast near San Sebastián.
We will be ‘bike-packing’ – carrying all our gear on mountain bikes, camping along the way, picking up coffee and food at every opportunity and may even treat ourselves to a proper bed once in a while.
It’s around 650 miles and will have us climbing the full height of Mount Everest more than twice (22,500 meters). I’m looking forward to the descent 🙂
When are we doing it?
We set off on the 24th of April, we’re aiming to complete the route in 3 weeks but we have until the 24th May to reach the other end (that’s 20-30 miles per day, with a lot of UP and DOWN). We’ll post updates along the way.
That sounds like a long way…
Yes it’s a bloody long way but Kate’s Mum was an exceptional woman. Dig deep!
Won’t it be covered in snow?
Maybe. Have warm sleeping bag, will travel.
How can you support us?
Using the links below you can donate to the Bedford Hospitals Charity, who have a current campaign to extend and update the Primrose unit that cared for Sue.
You can also donate to Cancer Research UK Directly (note – this is Kate’s brother Duncan’s Cancer Research funding page, 100% of your donation goes to the charity).
We’re aiming to raise £1,000 for each of these charities.
If you think of another way you can support us that would be lovely. So far Tom at Green Park Bike station in Bath has offered to give our bikes a full service and Luli has offered to give us a little Spanish tuition! Gracias.
