We are cycling the high-altitude Himalayan trekking route, raising funds for Community Action Nepal.

We have learned a thing or two about cycling over mountains. In 2016 we cycled across the Pyrenees – a full traverse from east to west, unsupported, off-road (often through snow), for a charity very close to our hearts.

This year we are in Nepal. From what we have seen so far, many scars of the 2015 earthquakes remain unhealed. Whole villages were buried by landslides, families destroyed and communities torn apart.

We are up for the challenge and feel like we should be trying to help rather than just passing through, so this year we are going to cycle the Annapurna Circuit (google it, it makes the Pyrenees look like a stroll in the park). We have done our research and will be raising funds for Community Action Nepal

Funds that we raise will be spent on health, education and welfare projects for some of the poorest people in the world.

If you like mountains, believe in free education and health care for all no matter how poor or if you are just thankful that your entire village wasn’t destroyed by an earthquake then maybe you’d like to donate?

About our challenge:

In total we will cover about 400km. That doesn’t sound too far, right? Well.. It’s all off-road of course. In total we will climb over 13,000m and to avoid the ill-effects of high altitude, we will need to ascend slowly to acclimatise.  Our highest night will be at 4,919m (Tilicho Lake, higher than the summit of Mont Blanc) and the highest point overall will be 5,416m (the Thorung La pass).

We have been waiting for the last of winter snows to melt. There’s a high chance of more snowfall and storms – should this happen while we are on the route we will batten down the hatches at a mountain tea-house and sit it out. While this is a very popular walking trek, things can get very serious up here so we will of course be careful.
